Business Development Manager

Weil Brown has an opportunity for a Business Development Manager in the Columbus, Ohio office.  This position will be responsible for providing strategic practice group and individual attorney guidance and support surrounding marketing and business development planning, visibility, research and client development opportunities in Weil Brown’s nine markets. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and follow-up of market, industry group, department, practice group and attorney business and visibility plans
  • Consider, assess and oversee responses to requests for proposal/qualifications, including customization of proposal content, practice descriptions, attorney bios and other related content
  • Review client feedback from interviews, analyze potential opportunities and assess next steps in building client relationships and driving value
  • Develop tailored biographies for attorneys prior to their start date and as needed
  • Assist in the development, execution and follow-up of attorney business plans. Work with BD team to help manage business plan meeting schedules and processes for review
  • Recommend, oversee and assist in the facilitation of practice group and attorney visibility campaigns, including: trade group activities, sponsorships, speaking engagements, thought leadership/authorship, client alerts, blogs, surveys, rankings, honors and awards
  • Develop strong working relationships with key partners in all practice areas, in all offices and with other members of the MBD team and across departments
  • Prepare and present updates as needed within the firm on MBD’s contributions to cross-departmental projects
  • Work with the Marketing and BD Coordinator to oversee the development and editing of content, including practice group descriptions, proposal content and attorney biographies
  • Supports in the maintenance and coordination of annual Chambers submission process
  • Provides input in the firm’s annual coordination of legal-specific honors such as Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers, and in the evaluation and development of custom honors submissions for practice groups and individual attorneys

Requirements and qualifications:

  • 12+ years marketing and business development experience, preferably within professional services
  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, journalism, communications or related business experience
  • Must be proficient in document management, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email (Outlook)
  • Capability in InDesign and Photoshop is a plus
  • Periodic travel to the firm’s markets required

Trust & Estates Paralegal

Weil Brown has an opportunity for a Trust & Estates Paralegal in our Columbus, Ohio office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review and interpret estate planning documents
  • Draft simple estate planning documents, including simple wills, powers of attorney, health care declarations and fiduciary succession documents
  • Assist with the transfer of assets or the designation of beneficiaries, including by preparing deeds, transfers of title and assignments of beneficial interests, and completing forms to open trust accounts, designate beneficiaries and certify trust powers 
  • Prepare probate forms for estate administration
  • Prepare accountings for estates and trusts
  • Prepare and file state and federal income, estate and gift tax returns
  • Perform such other duties as assigned, maintaining team effort to provide best possible assistance to clients

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or minimum of five years’ work experience as a trust and estates paralegal
  • Minimum of three years’ related work experience
  • Familiarity with federal tax Forms 1040, 1041, 706 and 709
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent math skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly and accurately, with colleagues and clients; professional appearance and demeanor

Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant

Weil Brown has an opportunity for a Legal Administrative Assistant in the Cleveland, Ohio office who has experience in Litigation. This position will be responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the office. The ideal candidate will possess excellent people and organizational skills, and be a consummate team player with a positive attitude. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creates and edits correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, etc. 
  • Maintains calendars for assignments, schedules meetings and appointments; makes travel arrangements as needed
  • Responsible for copying, faxing and scanning documents in appropriate format
  • Prepares documents for mailing/delivery (i.e., U.S. mail, overnight delivery, UPS, courier)
  • Participates in cultivation of client relationships by becoming familiar with the case/matter which provides for better service to the client and aids assignments in better preparing for client meetings
  • Familiar with filing procedures (i.e., electronic filing) and appropriate documentation needed for various courts and entities
  • Enters time into Aderant for timekeepers
  • Processes paperwork to open new client files; creates files in firm’s record management system; maintains current files and organizes files before processing for off-site storage
  • Creates transmittal letters for monthly billing
  • Prepares expense reports
  • Maintains current address/telephone listing of clients for each assignment, ensuring they are properly entered into the firm’s client relationship management system. May be responsible for preparing mailing lists/labels for firm-sponsored seminars/events
  • Provides assistance to other legal administrative assistants as time permits
  • Performs such other duties as assigned, maintaining team effort to provide best possible assistance to assignments and clients

Requirements and qualifications:

  • High school level education or equivalent office work experience
  • Minimum of three years prior legal secretarial experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience in litigation required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly; and accurately; professional demeanor
